How the sports theme works
In a Word Duel three reels decide the theme, the word length and the mode. Land on ⚽ Sports & games and the hidden word comes from the world of sport and play: disciplines (TENNIS, FENCING), equipment (PUCK, HELMET), people (UMPIRE, GOALIE), places (ARENA, STADIUM) and board or card games (CHESS, POKER).
Like every duel it's a race: fewest guesses wins, and the clock breaks ties. In Hearts mode you get clues like "Hit with a stick in ice hockey" — and only three tries per word.

Tips for sports words
- The -ING family is huge: SKIING, BOWLING, CYCLING, SURFING, FISHING, SAILING. If I, N, G light up at the end, fill in the sport.
- Think people and places. When disciplines don't fit, try who plays (PLAYER, REFEREE, CAPTAIN) and where (COURT, PITCH, ARENA, DUGOUT).
- Rare letters are fair game: JUDO, JAVELIN, JERSEY, JOGGING, SQUASH, SQUAD and PUCK — J, Q and K turn up more often than in other themes.
- Short words are verbs too: KICK, PASS, JUMP, DIVE, SWIM — four-letter sports words are often actions.
