How the daily word puzzle works

Guess the hidden 5-letter word in six tries. After every guess the tiles change color: green means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the word but elsewhere, and gray means it isn't in the word. Use what you learn to narrow it down.

Everyone gets the same word on the same day — puzzle #289 today (16 Oct 2026). That's what makes it fun to compare: after you finish you'll see how many players solved it, the distribution of guesses, and how you did compared with everyone else ("better than 72% of players").

• Free and unlimited thinking time — there's no clock in the solo puzzle.
• Your progress is saved, so you can close the page and come back later.
• Streaks: solve it on consecutive days to grow your 🔥 streak.
• Rewards: solving earns coins — the fewer guesses, the more you get — and completes a daily quest.
• Share without spoilers: the share button copies a colored grid, not the word.

Tips for solving it in fewer guesses

1. Open with five different common letters. Words like TRACE, SLATE or CRANE test the most frequent letters at once. See the full list in our starting words guide.
2. Don't waste greens. Keep green letters in place and move yellows to new positions.
3. Mind double letters. Answers like SWEET or LEVEL repeat letters; a gray copy of a letter that's also yellow means it appears only once.
4. When stuck, probe. A guess that tests several untried letters can be smarter than guessing a word that is only "maybe" right.
